ROUNSEVILLE RECEIVES THE DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS
34 YEARS AFTER IT WAS RECOMMENDED

COL Richard G. Rounseville, USA (Ret.) (left in picture), Winchester, Va., receives the Distinguished Flying Cross at a special ceremony at the end of the annual meeting of the Shenandoah Valley Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America on 18 November 2004. Presenting the award is Chapter President CW2 Pete Plourd USA (Ret). The citation was read by Chapter Past President COL William P. Stewart, USAF (Ret.). The award was made for COL Rounseville's intrepidity, courage, and valor as an Army aviator in the Republic of Vietnam in 1970 during the Vietnam War. COL Rounseville's award had been recommended then, but never received final Army approval. A copy of the recommendation was retained by a former commanding officer who brought the recommendation to the attention of the Army Staff in the Pentagon, who approved the award. The distinguished Flying Cross was presented 34 years after then-Major Rounseville performed his courageous act.
